ABOUT US: ABOUT KAREN BERNARD
Karen Bernard, along with her husband, Rev. A.R. Bernard, Sr. is co-founder of what is now Christian Cultural Center (CCC), a 20,000+ member ministry in the East New York/Canarsie sections of Brooklyn. She currently serves as the Vice-President of the Board of Directors.
As Director of Quality Control for CCC, Mrs. Bernard oversees the interview process for all volunteer and full-time staff members. With 112 full-time staff and over 800 volunteers, it is her task to monitor those representing the ministry, insuring that the level of excellence is maintained.
Mrs. Bernard’s special love for children led to her vision for Brooklyn Preparatory School (BPS), an early childhood educational facility currently serving ages three through six in pre-kindergarten through first grade. Understanding the importance of educating the whole child, BPS opened in 1993 and the students learn, grow and develop their true selves as revealed in Christ – academically, cognitively, emotionally and spiritually. The graduates consistently rank nationally within the top 10% in reading and top 5% in mathematics on the Stanford Achievement Tests. Mrs. Bernard continues to assist the school administration in areas such as staff development, curriculum, and additional services for the children while striving to maintain their levels of excellence.
The International Christian Sisterhood (ICS) is a ministry founded by Mrs. Bernard to address the special needs of women. In addition to having guest speakers, she has coordinated special women’s health meetings to inform the women in areas such as Self Breast Examinations and Breast Cancer Awareness.
While finding the call of ministry to be very fulfilling, Karen Bernard will quickly tell you that her most important calling is that of a wife and mother. In addition to being her husband’s chief intercessor and best friend, she has raised seven sons currently ages 15-30 and now gets even greater joy spending time with her fourteen grandchildren. |
