After the November 2006 shooting of Sean Bell, Joseph Guzman and Trent Benefield in New York, Reverend Bernard expressed his concern for the use of excessive force within the New York Police Department. He participated in a silent protest on New York's Fifth Avenue held on Saturday, December 16th. He marched with International Christian Brotherhood members in a demonstration of solidarity.
